The Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest has a strong commitment to musical education, leaving a legacy to the next generation. Mike Eben, chairman of GetJazzED and an accomplished saxophonist, hosts this concert along with Eric Marienthal, Randy Brecker, Albert Rivera, Gerald Veasley and the Lars Potteiger Trio.

GetJazzED is a music-in-education program of Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest, dedicated to building the jazz arts community by advancing education, promoting performance and developing new audiences.

Saxophonist extraordinaire Eric Marienthal is a multiple Grammy winner who has performed in over 75 different countries, recorded 14 solo albums and played on hundreds of records, films, television shows and commercial jingles.

His sound is superlative across jazz, jazz fusion, smooth jazz and pop genres. He also is a world-class composer, arranger and educator. He has published numerous improvisation books and videos.

Saxophonist and composer Albert Rivera has a special affinity for young musicians. He began his career as a classical musician at the age of 10 with the Bronx (NY) borough-wide concert band. At age 12, he and his bandmates were invited to appear at Carnegie Hall. He made three appearances there, the last of which was with the New York Pops.

Bitten by the bug of ensemble music, he auditioned for the selective LaGuardia High School program and was accepted. At LaGuardia, he discovered jazz, especially smitten by the music of legends Charlie Parker and John Coltrane.

Today he is an in-demand performer and educator. He has played at venues like New York’s Sweet Rhythm, Zinc Bar, B. Smith’s Restaurant, Cleopatra’s Needle, the River Room of Harlem and Dizzy’s Club Coco Cola at Lincoln Center as well as the Litchfield Jazz Festival. He tours throughout North America with his own trio and quartet and has collaborated with numerous contemporary jazz stalwarts. He is on the faculty at the Litchfield Jazz Camp coaching both young and old players.

Renowned bassist and formidable composer Gerald Veasley needs no introduction to Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest Fans. He has been a prime and prolific performer at Jazz Fest over the years as well as the festival’s official music host and ambassador.

As accomplished artists in many musical styles, the Lars Potteiger Trio feels at home in any musical setting. Whether navigating through pop, Latin, straight-ahead or contemporary jazz, this trio dazzles. Potteiger is a Berks County native who now lives in New York City.
