Legendary and Grammy Award-winning jazz keyboardist, arranger and record producer Bob James is a founding member of the iconic band Fourplay and the musician who wrote “Angela,” the theme song for the TV show Taxi.

James has had an incredibly productive career as a solo artist, as part of Fourplay and in many other configurations that have made him a contemporary jazz legend.

James’ recordings have practically defined pop/jazz and crossover during the past decades. Very influenced by pop and movie music, he has often featured famous musicians who add a jazz touch to what is essentially an instrumental pop set.

Many times James’ music has been thrown into the genre blender of hip-hop. His “Nautilus,” one of the most heavily sampled albums in hip-hop, earned him the status of Godfather of Hip-Hop. His albums, especially his early ones, have been sampled often by leading hip-hop artists.

The Bob James Trio, which includes bassist Michael Palazzolo and drummer Billy Kilson, forges into bone-deep melodies and shines them through the lenses of simpatico musicians who care about everything they interpret.

The trio released a new album Espresso in 2018 that captures James’ desire to release new music with a simple trio sound. It was his first solo album in 12 years and immediately hit No. 1 on iTunes for top jazz albums.
