Gypsy Jazz is the term used to describe the music pioneered by guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stephane Grappelli.
Django and Grappelli did their own version of American Hot Jazz, as played by Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington. They used acoustic guitars, bass and violin, rather than horns and drums. Grappelli and Django added some French and Gypsy flavor and created a blend of music that is quite popular and accessible.
Julien Labro has established himself as one of the foremost accordion and bandoneón players in both the classical and jazz genres. Deemed to be a triple threat as a brilliant technician, poetic melodist and cunning arranger, his artistry, virtuosity and creativity have earned him international acclaim and continue to astonish audiences worldwide.
Finnish-born Olli Soikkeil started playing guitar at age 12. After a few years of playing, Soikkeli was introduced to the music of Reinhardt and Gypsy Jazz has been his main focus ever since.
Gonzalo Bergara is a virtuoso composer and lead guitarist, mixing a cascade of arpeggios with the sounds of Paris and his native Argentina, to forge his own style of progressive Gypsy Jazz.
Grammy Award-winning violinist Zach Brock has been recognized for his soaring lyricism, audacious ingenuity and masterful command of his instrument.
Also performing are Eduardo Belo on bass, Chris Heslop on sax, Trey LaRue on bass, Josh Taylor on guitar and Max O’Rourke on guitar.
