Erich Cawalla

Unique vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Erich Cawalla is taking the next step forward in a career that spans over 20 years garnering a strong following throughout the United States.

Cawalla is well-known for his years of success as both leader and featured performer with The Uptown Band. Several of his original songs recorded by The Uptown Band have done quite well on various musical charts and have received considerable radio airplay.

While still performing regularly with the band, Cawalla now has a fascination with big band music and The Great American Songbook, the influential standards from the 1920’s to the 1950’s composed by George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, Harold Arlen, Johnny Mercer and Richard Rodgers, among others.

Cawalla’s first full-length solo recording The Great American Songbook showcases original arrangements by Dave Depalma of songs in The Great American Songbook, including a 17-piece big band with strings that features Cawalla on lead vocals and saxophone.

Produced by fellow Berks Countian Bennie Sims, the CD’s repertoire includes standards such as “Have You Met Miss Jones,” “Almost Like Being In Love,” “Ooo Baby, Baby,” Frank Sinatra favorites “One for My Baby” and “That’s Life” as well as “Life’s About Forgiving,” an original penned by Cawalla and Depalma.

Prominent artists on the CD include Randy Brecker, Steve Rudolph, Marko Marcinko and Andrew Neu.

This concert presents Erich Cawalla’s All-Star Big Band & Orchestra featuring saxophonist Larry McKenna, bassist Bennie Sims, drummer/pianist Marko Marcinko, pianist Steve Rudolph and more.

Imagine Michael Buble with a saxophone and you have Erich Cawalla.

Cawalla has collaborated with such notable artists as bassist Will Lee, Tower of Power founding member Greg Adams, Rick Braun, Chuck Loeb, Brian Bromberg and percussionist Doc Gibbs.

While primarily known for his signature saxophone, Cawalla is a gifted vocalist. During his performance with the Reading Pops Orchestra at the 2018 Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest, he displayed a velvety vocal tone and a range that could shoot up to the stratosphere of a falsetto nearly strong enough to be a countertenor.  And he showed he can scat as well as blaze through a sax solo.
