GREGG KARUKAS’ HAMMOND B3 ORGAN GROUP
BRAD COLLINS, DEREN BLESSMAN, THE BERKS HORNS
DoubleTree by Hilton Reading Small Ballroom / Jazz Cruises Stage
Grammy winning keyboardist Gregg Karukas adds another ultra-cool live performance project to his varied career as he tames the vintage “beast” — the Hammond B3, playing Soul/Jazz classics with a rotating cast of all-stars.
Fans of all things groovy will love The GK Soul Jazz Party as Gregg invites listeners to recall classic songs — tributes to the masters, Jimmy Smith, Jack McDuff, Charles Earland, Lou Donaldson and some of our recently departed favorite contemporary artists.
Since 1975, Karukas has explored various genres, but Brazilian music is one of his favorites, since he collaborated with Caymmi, Sergio Mendes and Ricardo Silveira in the 1990s.
Prior to that, he played with East Coast jazz fusion bands, toured with Melissa Manchester, and, in 1985, co-founded The Rippingtons after relocating to Los Angeles.
In 2013, he won the Grammy Award for Best New Age Album for his “Echoes of Love,” which he produced, composed, arranged, engineered and played on, in collaboration with Afghan-American composer/pianist Omar Akram.
