Celebrating the 80th birthday of the legendary R&B singer/songwriter Bill Withers in 2018, vocalist José James presents Lean On Me: José James Celebrates Bill Withers.

Vetted personally by Withers himself, the show is an exploration of the deep musical catalogue that touched millions of hearts and united communities worldwide.

Featuring Withers’ top 10 hits as well as his soul ballads and rare grooves, James brings both a deep musical appreciation and a contemporary approach to songs such as “Ain’t No Sunshine,” “Hope

She’ll Be Happier,” and “Just the Two of Us.”

James infuses Withers’ timeless tunes with his own brand of soul.

Lean On Me,  James’ fifth Blue Note album, was released on September 27. Lean On Me is the culmination of James’ hard work in the studio. Beyond the title cut and “Grandma’s Hands” and “Who Is He,” the 12-track set boasts additional Withers’ gems such as “Kissing My Love,” “Just the Two of Us,” “Better Off Dead” and “Lovely Day,” featuring Lalah Hathaway.

Often referred to as a jazz singer for the hip-hop generation, James has combined jazz, soul, drum, bass and spoken word into his unique brand of vocal jazz. He has performed on prestigious stages all over the world, including those at the North Sea Jazz Festival, the Victoria Jazz Festival, Billboard Live Tokyo, Centro Cultural Sao Paolo, the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, Central Park Summerstage in New York and London’s Royal Festival Hall.
