Pianist, singer and composer Kayla Waters is an ebullient, classically trained, crossover jazz performer.
Born into a musical family, Waters was introduced to music by her father, acclaimed smooth jazz saxophonist Kim Waters. From the age of six, she studied classical piano and eventually earned her bachelor of music in piano performance from Howard University.
As a performer, she made her debut playing on several of her father’s albums before launching her own career. She has shared the stage with a bevy of luminaries including Patrice Rushen, Maysa, Steve Wonder and others.
In 2017 she released her debut full-length album Apogee featuring the single “I Am” that was well received.
Along with her performance career, Waters works as director of music and worship at Mount Vernon Place United Methodist Church in Washington, D.C. and also is music director of the Howard University Early Learning Program.
Teen Town is a young, impressive fusion/jazz/funk trio out of Williamsport. These wildly talented teens breathe an electric and fresh energy into the idea of fusion, proving that great music is ageless and timeless.
The powerhouse trio is led by bassist Gabriel Severn (13) with Logan Bedard (16) on drums and Connor Rohrer (18) on keys. The three met at the Central PA Friends of Jazz Camp and formed Teen Town in late 2016.
Teen Town hit the ground running since its debut in May 2017 at the State College High School Jazz Festival. They’ve traveled with a packed schedule ever since, including a 2018 Berks Jazz Fest appearance.
