The second concert of the monthly Jazz on the Avenue series features Monnette Sudler, an artist who is no stranger to guitar fans in the Philadelphia area.
The Monnette Sudler Quartet features Sumi Tonooka (piano), Richard Hill (bass), Leon Jordan Sr. (drums)
Sudler’s musical roots run deep.
Exposed to blues, folk, rock, R&B and jazz at an early age, her influences include Nat King Cole, Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Pat Martino, Wes Montgomery, John Coltrane, Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk.
Sudler’s deep appreciation for the Philadelphia’s rich music history and the passion and talent to be a successful musician ultimately found her studying at the Berklee College of Music before returning home to attend Temple University.
Sudler has released a collection of highly regarded projects. Beyond her solo career, she has worked with an impressive stable of artists including
Kenny Barron, Sonny Fortune, Trudy Pitts and Grover Washington, Jr. Exhibiting a passion for a wide variety of musical genres, Sudler considers herself a jazz and blues instrumentalist first and foremost, occasionally accented by her sultry vocals.
The multi-talented artist plays lead guitar, bass, drums and a variety of African string and percussion instruments.
Sudler loves her chosen path as a jazz artist. She finds there are more opportunities than ever to deliver her music to the world and is looking forward to performing at Yocum Institute for Arts Education.
