Guitarist/vocalist Nick Colionne, a familiar face to Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest audiences, will be on hand for Sunday brunch on April 10 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Reading, in “Nick Colionne and Friends,” also featuring pianist Brian Simpson, vocalist Selina Albright and The Berks Horns.

Growing up in Chicago, Colionne started learning guitar at 9, and by 15 was already touring as a sideman with the Staples Sisters, Curtis Mayfield and Natalie Cole. In 1994 he released his solo debut indie album, “It’s My Turn,” and since his breakthrough album “Just Come On In” (2003), he has achieved stardom with his mix of jazz and R&B.

His 11th album, “Finger Painting” (2020) includes seven originals out of 11 tracks, ranging in style from light funk to dreamy ballad to soul jazz and much more.

Colionne is known for his cool threads, always dressing to the nines for his performances. For years, he has been teaching and mentoring students in Elgin, Ill.; one of them, Chris Jones, later became his tour manager and sound engineer.

Colionne also helped Jones fulfill his early dreams by having him perform onstage with him — more proof that he is not only a musician, but a gentleman through and through.
