JazzTimes magazine has called guitarist/vocalist Norman Brown “a culmination of Jimi Hendrix and George Benson with some of Wes Montgomery thrown in.”

After leaving Kansas City to attend the Musician’s Institute in North Hollywood, Calif., Brown burst onto the national scene in 1992 with his debut album, “Just Between Us,” featuring Boyz II Men and Stevie Wonder, launching the MoJazz label (a branch of Motown Records).

Since then, he has won a Soul Train Music Award for Jazz Album of the Year with “After the Storm” (1994), a Grammy Award for best pop instrumental for “Just Chillin’”(2002), and is considered by many to be one of the finest jazz guitarists of all time.

In 2002 he formed a super group, BWB, with saxophonist Kirk Whalum and trumpeter Rick Braun; they released the album “Groovin’.” His most recent album, “Heart to Heart” (2020), is a collection of originals that fuse the best elements of jazz, R&B, blues, pop and more.

With more than 2 million albums sold throughout his extraordinary career, Brown continues to delight fans in his live concerts. He looks forward to reconnecting with Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest audiences on Saturday, April 9 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Reading.
