Grammy-nominated organist Pat Bianchi has established himself as one of the most in-demand organists on the scene today. His command of the instrument, harmonic prowess, rhythmic intensity and versatility are rivaled by few.
While still actively performing with Pat Martino and Lou Donaldson, Bianchi not only collaborates with many other musicians but also is on the faculty of Temple University and Queens College. He has released six CDs as a leader and is a featured artist on over 30 recordings.
Joe Locke is widely considered to be one of world’s best jazz vibraphonists, notable for his stunning physical power and broad emotional range. He has performed and recorded with a diverse range of notable musicians, including Grover Washington Jr., Kenny Barron, Eddie Henderson, Cecil Taylor, Dianne Reeves, Ron Carter and The Beastie Boys.
Award-winning guitarist Paul Bollenback has performed with such stalwarts as Scott Ambush, Charlie Byrd, Joey DeFrancesco, Herb Ellis, Della Reese, Arturo Sandoval and Stanley Turrentine. He has appeared on Entertainment Tonight, The Tonight Show, The Today Show and Good Morning America.
In the 1990’s Byron Landham came to be recognized as one of the top jazz drummers in Philadelphia where he performed with well-known hard bop and soul jazz improvisers like Joey DeFrancesco and Shirley Scott. His reputation grew outside of Philadelphia when he worked as a sideman with Lee Ritenour, Randy Johnston, Houston Person and Betty Carter.
Opening for Bianchi will be Teen Town, the young, impressive fusion/jazz/funk trio out of Williamsport. These wildly talented teens breathe an electric and fresh energy into the idea of fusion, proving that great music is ageless and timeless.
The powerhouse trio is led by bassist Gabriel Severn, 16, with Logan Bedard, 18, on drums, and Connor Rohrer, 20, on keys. The three met at the Central PA Friends of Jazz Camp and formed Teen Town in late 2016.
Severn, 16, developed a love for bass before he could even talk. His devotion to music and his desire to master every aspect of the instrument has taken him on an eventful musical journey.
He’s received a Young Arts award, five DownBeat awards, two Jazz Education Network awards, and two nominations from the Central PA Music Hall of Fame. He’s performed coast to coast, appeared at many notable music festivals, performed alongside several of his musical idols, recorded with artists from around the world, leads his own band, recorded his award-winning original music with prominent jazz artists, and received global radio airplay.
Named after one of the great jazz fusion tunes of the 1970s, Teen Town brings its own creative voice to the jazz fusion genre, performing original compositions as well as unique covers weaving jazz, funk, rock, and world rhythms into tunes by luminaries such as the Average White Band, Weather Report, the Yellowjackets, and Chick Corea.
This will be the trio’s third straight Berks Jazz Fest appearance.
