Berks Arts, presenter of the Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest, has received notice that Brian Culbertson has decided to cancel all his August and September performances, including his concert scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 22, 6:00 p.m., at the Scottish Rite Cathedral.
The good news is that fans who were looking forward to the grand finale of the 30th anniversary celebration will be treated to not one, but three artists, who will take the stage as Culbertson’s replacements.
The new concert — RnR: Rick Braun and Richard Elliot with special guest Peter White — will bring three long-time Berks Jazz Fest favorites together for what promises to be a high-energy show to close the 10-day fest.
“It is going to be a show that fans will never forget,” said Rick Braun. “The Berks Jazz Fest is incredibly special to me, Richard and Peter. We all have been performing at the fest for many, many years.
“To close the 30th anniversary celebration is amazing. We are going to have a blast. One thing is certain — the Scottish Rite Cathedral will be rocking.”
John Ernesto, Berks Jazz Fest general manager, said: “The fest is thankful and appreciative that Rick, Richard and Peter were able to adjust their schedules to be available to perform Sunday August 22.”
Culbertson shared the following statement to his Jazz Fest fans.
I hope this note finds you and your families well and happy to see things opening back up this summer.
With this opening has come the return of music events and festivals, which I am very excited about. While many of you can simply drive over to your local venue, some of you may have to fly to where you want to go.
As we all get back to it, I must admit that I am not quite comfortable with the flying part yet. It is because of this that I have decided to postpone/cancel my (re-rescheduled) appearances at three events later this summer that I would have to fly to: 30th annual Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest in August, plus the Cincinnati and Atlantic City jazz festivals in September.
I hope you all will understand that everyone is dealing with the current situation in their own way, so I thank you for respecting this difficult decision.
John Ernesto said: “Of course, we are disappointed that Brian will not be with us for the 30th anniversary celebration. We fully understand and respect his personal decision not to tour at this time.
“We wholeheartedly support Brian. He has been a member of the Berks Jazz Fest family since his initial fest appearance in 1996 – the first of 19.
“And we are happy to announce that his 20th fest appearance will be on Sunday, April 3, 2022, to be part of the 31st annual Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest, performing at the Santander Performing Arts Center.
