Guitarist/composer/producer/arranger Chieli Minucci’s Special EFX, which he founded in 1982, will be presenting his All-Stars on Sunday, April 3 in the DoubleTree by Hilton Reading, having just released a 35th-anniversary CD, “All Stars.”
Chieli Minucci has recorded and performed with pop stars like Celine Dion, Lionel Richie and Jennifer Lopez, and with jazz artists like Kirk Whalum, Norman Brown, Mindi Abair and Rick Braun. He has also won three Emmy Awards for his TV compositions.
The All-Stars will feature:
Elliott Yamin, the memorable vocalist from American Idol’s fifth season, best known for his hit single, “Wait for You.”
Keyboardist/arranger/composer Lao Tizer, who, with his band, released “Songs From the Swinghouse” in 2018.
Nelson Rangell, known for his piccolo solos as well as flute and sax. Rangell has recorded with The Rippingtons, the late Chuck Loeb, Patti Austin and many others, and has released 17 albums of his own, most recently “By Light” (2019).
Violinist Karen Briggs, who started out as a classical musician, but spent her career playing gospel, R&B, Latin, New Age, rock, hip-hop and jazz. She has conducted improvisation violin workshops at Berklee, the Kennedy Center and other venues, and has been an advocate for the use of violin in contemporary music and music education in the schools. She has performed internationally, and made a cameo appearance in the 1999 film, “Music of the Heart.”
Bassist Gerald Veasley, who has been a fixture at Berks Jazz Fests since the beginning, and who holds the “Gerald Veasley Jam” each Friday and Saturday night at the DoubleTree during the festival.
Drummer Joel Rosenblatt, best known as a member of Spyro Gyra, one of the most successful pop-jazz bands ever. He is also the owner and main engineer of the world-class CliffSound Productions in Somers, N.Y.
