Drummer Vince Cherico wins Grammy with Arturo O’Farrill Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra

After careful research, it was discovered that another Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest artist received a Grammy Award last Sunday in Los Angeles.

Samara Joy won two Grammys -- Best New Artist and Best Jazz Vocal Album.
Drummer Vince Cherico won his sixth Grammy.

Cherico was part of the Arturo O’Farrill Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra that received the Grammy for the Best Latin Jazz Album for Fandango at the Wall in New York. During the Berks Jazz Fest, Cherico will be part of Frank Vignola’s Birdland Guitar Night concert set for Friday, March 31, 6:00 p.m. at the Miller Center for the Arts. Vignola and Cherico will be joined by guitarist Vinnie Raniolo, bassist Gary Mazzapropi, and special guest Houston Person, the legendary saxophonist. Guitarist Brian Betz and saxophonist Denis DiBlasio will open the show.

Cherico has worked with numerous major jazz and world music artists.
From 1995-2006, he performed with Ray Barretto & The New World Spirit and later The Ray Barretto Sextet, where he developed his reputation in Latin Jazz, touring the world.
From 2014-2016, Vince won five Grammys, starting with the 2014 Latin Grammy for Final Night at Birdland with The Chico O'Farrill Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra for Best Instrumental Recording; The Offense of The Drum with The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra for Best Latin Jazz Album; Best Latin Children's Album for Los Animales with Mister G; and Best Latin Jazz Album for his performance with The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra's recording of Cuba: The Conversation Continues.

Vince, while forever a student of music, is a dedicated educator teaching privately at his New York studio. He is on the faculty of Drummers Collective and the Columbia University Jazz Program.
